Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. At its opening in 2010, it was billed as the world’s most expensive standalone casino property at S$8 billion, including the land cost.
The resort includes a 2,561-room hotel, a 120,000-square-metre convention-exhibition centre, the 74,000-square-metre The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, a museum, two large theatres, “celebrity chef” restaurants, two floating Crystal Pavilions, an art-science museum, and the world’s largest atrium casino with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines. The complex is topped by a 340-metre-long SkyPark with a capacity of 3,900 people and a 150 m infinity swimming pool, set on top of the world’s largest public cantilevered platform, which overhangs the north tower by 67 m.

It is the first integrated resort in Singapore, and is a key component of the Singapore government’s strategy to double tourist arrivals in Singapore by 2015.
The construction of the Marina Bay Sands was financed by the issue of US$4.2 billion of debt. In total, US$5.7 billion was spent on the entire Marina Bay Sands project.
LVS’s President and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson said that the resort’s architecture was meant to evoke the image of a card deck:
“Cards are the basis of our gaming business, so it made sense to design a resort inspired by playing cards.”
The resort comprises three 55-storey hotel towers, which opened in phases from 17 February 2010. The architects for the project were Aedas and Hirsch Bedner Associates, and KPF. Engineering was provided by Arup and Parsons Brinckerhoff, and the main contractor was Ssangyong Engineering & Construction.
The structural engineering for the Marina Bay Sands was carried out by Arup and Parsons Brinckerhoff. The roof of the convention centre is a truss structure, incorporating a series of Vierendeel trusses. The roof is designed to collect rainwater, which is then used to
