If you are looking to travel to the beautiful islands of Guernsey and Alderney, you will need to obtain a visa in advance. This process is relatively straightforward, but there are a few things you need to know before you apply.

The Bailiwick of Guernsey (which includes the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm) is a British Crown Dependency and is not part of the UK. However, UK visa requirements apply to travellers wishing to visit the island.
There are two types of visas that can be applied for in order to travel to Guernsey; a Standard Visitor visa and an Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW).
A Standard Visitor visa allows you to visit the UK for business, pleasure or to receive medical treatment. It costs £89 and is valid for 6 months.
The EVW is an electronic visa which allows eligible nationals of certain countries to travel to the UK for business or pleasure without the need to apply for a visa. The EVW costs £6 and is valid for 6 months.
To apply for a visa, you will need to complete an online application form and pay the relevant fee. You will also need to provide supporting documentation, such as a passport, proof of travel and accommodation and evidence of your financial means.
Once your application has been processed, you will receive a decision within 3 weeks. If your visa is approved, you will be issued with a visa vignette, which must be placed in your passport.
When travelling to Guernsey, you will need to present your passport with the visa vignette at the port of entry. You will also need to fulfil the usual immigration requirements, such as providing evidence of onward travel and sufficient funds for your stay.
Once in Guernsey, you can freely travel within the Bailiwick. There are no border controls between Guernsey, Alderney, Sark or Herm. However, if you are travelling from Guernsey to the UK, you will need to go through UK immigration controls.

Guernsey and Alderney visa application processing time
As of July 2019, the Guernsey Border Agency has been processing visa applications in an average of 15 working days. This is significantly faster than the previous processing time of 6-8 weeks.
There are a few factors that can affect the processing time of your visa application. If you are applying for a visa for the first time, or if you have never been to Guernsey before, you will need to provide additional documentation, which can add to the processing time.
Additionally, if you are applying for a visa to work or study in Guernsey, you will need to provide additional documentation to prove your status. If you are applying for a tourist visa, you will only need to provide your passport and proof of travel.
The Guernsey Border Agency has made significant improvements to their visa processing time, and as of July 2019, they are processing visas in an average of 15 working days.
Guernsey and Alderney visa fees

If you are applying for a student visa, the fee is £220 for a single entry visa, £330 for a double entry visa, and £440 for a multiple entry visa. There is also a £20 application fee for each person applying for a visa.
